Showreel:
Demo conclusions:
Bouncing Ball with Travel
Ideas: I was inspired by the animation of the Pixar intro and then I tried to incorporate this session into my portfolio as the preface and the ending, which can be way more animated.
Bouncing Ball Obstacle Course
Ideas: Partly my inspiration comes from the “Squid game” and I designed the whole obstacle and scenario which can be quite mind-numbing because I m not a game lover to some extent but overall the process of design is enjoyable.
Animation: need to care about the rhythm and timing of different objects.
Render: try to use colors in a simple but visually comfortable way
Solid Posing
Ideas: The emotional poses I created were based upon my own experience, trying to bring myself into the scene to feel related to my characters.
Render: Not only to show the simple poses but also to focus on the atmosphere of the final render works especially when it comes to emotional poses. Lighting is the key to emotion
Ball & Tail Animation
Ideas: Not only about the repetitive jumping but also about the adventure with unexpected obstacles.
Animation: The tail is the most important part because it is hard to make it natural to some extent. Also, the animation of the tail can also show the emotion of the character, which really needs to focus on.
Render: I added some alpha textures of clouds in order to make the background more like the sky.
Walk Cycle
Ideas: Halloween was approaching at that time, which became the setting of my demo.
Animation: Firstly I did the simple walk cycle that Alan taught us and then I tried to use the rule of Walk cycle and brought it to the Zombie walk. And I searched for so many refs of zombies walking but it’s a bit terrifying so I choose not to post it here.
Render: Using Neon light to level up the atmosphere.
Body Mechanics /Advanced Body Mechanics Animation
Ideas: I was really into the Squid game at that time, which became the reason for my character picking. Apart from this, I also designed the scenario of this demo and found the clips of dancing that I really enjoyed, which I brought into my animation.
Animation: First-hand & Second-hand(I tried to record it by myself also found some refs online). In addition, it requires patience to key the frames and to adjust the curves in the graphic editor to a large extent.
Render: simple color is still the key!
Lip Syncing & Performance Animation (Pre-Viz)
Animation: I used the refs that Alan gave us also recorded the clips by myself in order to get more familiar and related with the movement of the lip-syncing.
Render: considering the content of the voice clip which is kinda creepy and terrifying so I focused on the same atmosphere of this demo. I adjusted the light and textures many times.
