Project Ⅱ – Serendipity
The highlights of two advanced & experimental projects
This is my term2 showreel in which I combined two of my Projects altogether.
The Showreel of Project II – Serendipity
Inspiration & Concept
This is a short story between an emo bear and my first character called “smile”
Basically, there’s an abandoned bear going through a kind of lonely journey in the first place.
One day, he met the bubbly “smile”, who’s been trying to warm him and cheer him up.
They have accompanied each other for a long time, however, it’s a bad ending as result.
Style
If I describe the Project I(Everything sucks) is therapeutic, then Project II (Serendipity)would be romantic and surreal.
They are all fantasy scenes I’ve been dreaming.
Priority
Due to the limited time, I still choose to focus more on the atmosphere and visual languages of my project II, which I think it’s the first impression and what I could handle in the given time. So I’ve been trying my best on researching the fantasy colour palette and changing the materials that can fit my scene and character pretty well.
Development
- Due to the reason that the character ” smile” has more dynamic animations that he need to obtain, so I re-rigged my character “smile” by using Advanced skeleton which I learned this term, as well as solving the problems of his skin weight.

Using skincage to adjust and balance the weight of it.

and it has a lot of problems for starters

really need to be patient to it but rigging-related stuffs are still nightmare for me.

Split Illustrations & Explanation
The inspiration of this scene from my experience that I saw an abandoned toy bear in the garbage dump.

These scene is from my dream, which I feel it’s very sad but beautiful.
Also I get to know much better about the ocean and flora system, and made it feel way atmospheric than before.
I was about to add fire VFX on the piano, but my poor laptop just crushed over and over again so that I gave that up…

On top of that, I was being patient for the ocean flow and flora system, for which took me ages to adjusting speed, size, time, chopyness and so on.

As the metaverse becomes a buzzleword, I also try to corporate the concept into my project.
the style of the metaverse could be kind of fantasy also bizzare to some point.
So I’ve been trying to figure out the mixed materials in order to create much more special ones.

So I’ve been trying to figure out the mixed materials in order to create much more special ones.

This is one of my favourite scenes in my project, which I feel is so romantic and therapeutic.
In the first place, I was trying to create the rain in Cinema4D by using particle emitter, but it’s not that good as result.

so I changed it to AE for adding the rain also some visual effects in order to make it more magical,
such as the rain, fireflies, thunderstorm…

Besides, I designed a unique way of the camera movement in this scene
I feel it’s very hard to handle visual languages, such as camera movements
so I designed many kinds of ways for the popping up of my character “smile”

I like this transformation

I brought it to AE to add some snow effects , also I tried many time to create the materials of snow and to add the bump to it but still not that up to my expectation to some point.

So I wanna use the light to make this scene feel more atmospheric, trying to cover the defect of the snow lane.
And, well it’s not that bad 🙂
But I suppose I need to learn techniques of materials and lighting in more detail.

the final scene I use PloyFX to do the dispearing

Editing
I brought it to AE and PR for my final composing and Editing, adjusting colours and adding visual effects. Whereas I think these two software is not enough for my FMP, I need to dig into Davinchi later on.

Issues & Reflection:
- it lacks more dynamic and vivid animation due to the limited time.
- I need to learn more about the materials also rendering techniques.
- I should’ve rigged my bear by adv rather than auto rigging next time.
