Stage1_Scene1_In bedroom

In the first scene which I wanna create is my main character struggling out from the bed.

This is kind of a new challenge for me to complete mainly because it is concerned with some new techniques of simulation I haven’t tried and known before.

The hardest part is how to let the bed sheet interact with the character. I need to figure out the simulations and dynamics behind this .

Animation & Simulation

Firstly, I did a simple animation in Maya.

and brought it to C4D, in order to do the interaction test to see if it can work.

Then I found out there’s no clues to do this in C4D and Maya. So i changed to Marvelous Designer for this simulation.

This is just a simple test to see if this pipeline works, so it still has some obvious issues need to be fixed later.

Positively, I found out MD is a way more effective way for doing this part.

Also in this pipeline, there are some tips I have to keep in mind:

  • 1.Key animation in Maya, exporting the character animation as “abc” files, the props as “obj” files.
  • 2.Import character animation(abc files) into MD first, and then import(add) props(obj files)into MD.

After sorting out these, the next step I need to do is going back to maya and keying the animation seriously and bringing it to MD for simulation again.

This is the test in MD, in which I found out there is a striking problem with the animation of the character’s fingers, not natural and quite static.

So I went back to Maya for improving the animation of the fingers and some other movements.

This one is better 🙂

When it comes to exporting it from MD to Maya, I found the tutorials of the pipeline on youtube.

However it turned out that there are some mistakes showing up by following the method from this tutorial.

Therefore, I searched for another one, which was helpful and feasible.

And I saved some processes that I need to keep in mind:

Finally, I finished the first simulation successfully through this pipeline.

it’s been tough due to the terrible function of my computer when it’s doing the simulation things 🙁

In sum, Hard work paid off!

So, I did some other simulations by using the same method.

After the simulation, the next stage is to fulfill the scenes by adding more props.

Also, making the curtain blowing by using the cloth tag and forces.

The next scene I need to create is taking the suit, which seems like a kind of simple one but it took me so long because I came across some problems with exporting and measuring the size of the models between Maya and MD. So I just did the animation and reexported it over and over again.

I felt the character is a bit of rigid and unnatural, so I tried to imitate the motion in real life when I took the clothes from my wardrobe, thinking of what kinds of motion I had that I can add to my animation. Finally I keyed the motion of the head to make it way more natural.

I think the naked character is bit of weird also this shot distance is quite narrow. So I made some changes, such as adding the pyjamas to my character also shot distance(from close-up to medium shot).

When I was doing the simulation of the pyjamas, some issues came up. I did it over and over again, but the cloth simulation still couldn’t fit the time frame, meaning it couldn’t synchronised with the character’s movement, which I haven’t come across before. Then I googled a lot but the problem was still not resolved. Finally, I changed to the lower version of MD, where the simulation worked accurately !!!!!!!:)

but it seemed like still some problems with the cloth in this video, weird flashing?

Just tried to redo it then… reopened MD and exported it again…

perfect! Flashing things gone!

Lighting

I hope the vibe of my scene can be dreamy and surreal. What’s more, keeping it visually clean and comfortable is the key to my project.

I’ve been fulfilling the scene by adding more light, but I found a problem below when I was doing it.

luckily, the problem solved. ( https://www.bilibili.com/video/av244559920/ )

Because these three scenes happen in the same area, where the lighting should be the same in all. But I still made a little bit changes of the lighting when it comes to the different shot.
